3:47 am - So let me get this straight, Celtic Fan...

freezer
Ray Allen, a free agent who could sign wherever he wanted for however much he was willing to take, leaving Boston is an act of betrayal and makes him a filthy sell out.

Boston being THIS close to trading him to Memphis at the trade deadline, re-signing Kevin Garnett within days of his free agency and signing Jason Terry - all while ignoring Jesus Shuttlesworth (and pretty much choosing Rajon Rondo over him)... That's all fine and dandy, yes?

Priorities; you has yours skewed.

9:43 pm - Eli v Romo

sarls04
Got to keep the sports debate alive by discussing a NFL topic that needs to be addressed. Most people are led to believe that there is a clear and obvious answer, probably due to public perception. The perception is that people evaluate who is better by saying "Who has more championships?" This is literally the worst claim in the world when it comes to evaluating who is better. This is because football is a team sport and if the rest of your team is bad, then it doesn't matter how good the quarterback is you won't be that successful. So, if you switched teams and Eli played for Dallas and Romo played for the Giants, would either have won a Superbowl? I suspect that Eli would not and Romo would have a chance because Giants are a better TEAM. My point is that Romo is more productive quarterback and a much better quarterback than Eli. If you want to look at the stats and argue the stats...go ahead because Romo beats Eli outright when it comes down to stats. To clarify where Eli ranks among quarterbacks he is the 8th best quarterback in the league and Romo is the 6th best when incorporating career and future productivity (years left to play at a high level). Plain and simple Tony Romo > Eli Manning!

5:46 am - Upset weekend

nonpostmodern
I actually think the team that benefited the most by the series of upsets this weekend is one of the teams who got upset themselves: Oklahoma State.

The losses by Oregon and Oklahoma effectively negate their loss to Iowa State. They shouldn't be any worse than 4th in the next BCS standings, and since the three teams ahead of them will all be from the SEC (Bama, LSU, Arkansas), they still basically control their own destiny.

If Oklahoma State wins out and LSU goes undefeated, the Cowboys will probably get the nod over Bama because the human voters don't want to let a team into the national championship game that didn't win their own division, much less their own conference.

11:19 pm - Lockout draft

kev_dawg
Who'll be the more overrated #1 draft pick: Cam Newton or Kyrie Irving? My money's on Irving. Whoop-de-doo that he shined in a few games. The fact is when he was on the court in the NCAAs, Duke got worse. Also, Dookies don't really do shit in the NBA anyways.

8:23 pm - NBA Draft Lottery

pumaman44
The other night, ESPN was replaying the "30 for 30" program focused on Reggie Miller and the New York Knicks, which naturally contained some brief footage of the Knicks drafting Patrick Ewing. However, there was no mention of the variety of conspiracy theories that exist questioning the validity of this lottery. One Wikipedia poster even proclaims that "Video evidence shows that the Knicks envelope was jammed into the drum, and then when reaching for the first envelope, Stern reaches for the one with the bent corner," and cites a YouTube video as a citation.

Anyways, it's hard to say if the conspiracy theories are correct, but those who believe everything Tim Donaghy has to say might buy into the idea of a fixed lottery.

Cleveland was fortunate enough to win the top pick in tonight's lottery, which is a [sorta ok] consolation prize for a team that just lost Lebron to South Beach. But who is the best player to pick?

11:00 am - NFL teams in the playoffs with a losing record

wallynotorious
I lost my poll-making powers, so I'll just pose the questions openly:

* Should a 7-9 NFL team get to the playoffs? Or should they replace it with another wild card?

* Should a 8-8 NFL team get to the playoffs? Or should they replace it with another wild card?

* Should they reseed the playoffs based on final record, or should division winners always get priority seeding?

* What other changes should they make to the playoffs?

* Was that really Rex Ryan's voice in that video?

* Are those greedy, dumbass owners really gonna go through with the lockout?

* Who's going to win the Super Bowl?

My own answers:

* Hell no.

* No, but I can compromise on this point if needed.

* Hell yes, seed on final record.

* The Steelers get an automatic berth in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, and they'll be replaced in the NFL playoffs with a representative from the Big 10 ... er, 12.

* It's a mystery....................................

* God, I hope not.

* The San Francisco 49ers.

10:58 pm - Boxing Hall of Fame inductions

wallynotorious
So apparently,

They've elected the 2011 class of the Boxing Hall of Fame. Among the inductees are Julio Cesar Chavez, Mike Tyson, and ....

Sylvester Stallone?

1) Should actors be elected to sports halls of fame?

2) What should his acceptance speech be?

You, and most notably your joke of an Athletic Commission (but why limit it to just that?), are pieces of shit and the most corrupt group in American sports today. Margarito should be banned for life from boxing, not being allowed to make millions on a Pacquiao payday.

4:21 pm - Cry Baby NBA Owners and Execs

yobachi2003
First it was the Cavs owner, now Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo is sling juvenile and BS insults at Chris Bosh. Look, the Raptor are a miserable franchise, and like the Cavs; they’re showing why they deserve to be.

Bosh was there for seven years, and you gave him even less parts than Lebron got, and Lebron is a better player. So the Raptors weren’t ever going anywhere. Bosh new it and got out. It’s clear star players don’t want to go to Toronto.

From Stoudamire to McGrady to Carter to Bosh, when stars players get a chance to get out of Toranto, THEY LEAVE.

I know Stoudamire got traded, but that was because he was disgruntled, and they traded him to try and get something for him before he left on his own.

Alonzo Morning even RETIRED rather than go to Toronto, when he got traded to them by New Jersey in the Carter deal. Then, he came back out of retirement after his obligation to the Raptures was up.

This is how bad nobody who has any real choice wants to play in Toronto.

I have nothing against the city as I know nothing about it; but there something about it that NBA starts want no part of. Colangelo and Raptor fans just need to deal with that fact.

Colangelo basically called Bosh a quitter who wouldn’t come back from an injury just because he didn’t want to, and said that he simply wasn’t good enough to fit players with him no matter who they brought.

Either Colangelo is a complete incompetent or a complete liar; because if Bosh is such a lousy player and quitter, then why would you even want him on your team at all, much less offer him a max contract to stay. The fact that such was offered means Colangelo is lying about what he thinks about Bosh to insult him over sour grapes and hurt feelings (the same as with the slick-back headed mobster who owns the Cavs did with Lebron), or if he does really believe that stuff, he’s the biggest incompetent in the world for offering him a max contract.
